Maldon: Residents feel safe in crime-ridden street
Maldon residents have defended the reputation of their street despite a frequent police presence.
Recent crime statistics show Washington Close, off Washington Road, is one of the worst streets in Maldon for anti-social behaviour outside of the High Street.
The statistics show that there were five incidents of anti-social behaviour in the small cul-de-sac in June and May saw one incident of anti-social behaviour and another of violent crime.
Nearly every month this year crime has been reported in the road.
But residents who live on the road are not concerned and say it is a delight to live there.
Retired Melvin Mitchell, 62, said: “I like living here. You do get police here two or three times a month, there was one here last week, but it’s not something that worries me."
