A personal banking adviser has been jailed for transferring thousands of pounds into his own account.

Matthew Schofield was supposed to give advice to customers at the Maldon branch of Santander on how to look after their money.

But a court heard how he put more than £8,000 into his own account at the High Street bank before he was caught.

The customers involved were aged between 67 and 92, Chelmsford Crown Court was told.

Schofield, 26, admitted five fraud charges and was jailed for a total of eight months.

Judge Charles Gratwicke told Schofield it had been a "serious breach of trust."
