Maldon: Wetherspoons battle set to continue Maldon: Wetherspoons battle set to continue

Determined residents have vowed to continue their campaign against a national pub chain’s plans to open in Maldon.

Their stance comes as JD Wetherspoon resubmitted its plans to transform the large former post office building in High Street into one of its hundreds of pubs nationwide.

The original proposals, which were withdrawn so alterations could be made to the design of the kitchen, left the town largely divided.

Rival Facebook groups were set up for and against the plans, while former publican Gill Crawford, 44, started a petition in opposition.

Mrs Crawford, of Wantz Road, fears the arrival of the pub giant could spell the end for existing businesses and is now urging other concerned residents to write to Maldon District Council .
