Burnham’s academy pupils celebrated their GCSE results this week, despite a number of schools across the country reporting unprecedented lower grades in English.

Ormiston Rivers Academy’s percentage of A* to C grades at GCSE not including English and Maths was 86 per cent.

Principle Joan Costello was reluctant to release the percentage for A* to C grades including English and Maths as the English results were lower than expected nationally.

Despite this she said she was delighted with the results overall.

She said: “I am over the moon with the results, there is such an array of A* and A grades.

“I am really impressed with all their achievements."

Why the "reluctance" of Ms Costello to release the results including English and Maths? She was given the task of raising standards so I am sure she has nothing to hide. Also - I would be interested to know what the Ebac results are (5 ACTUAL GCSE - no BTEC equivalents).
