Burnham: Stricken boat rescued

A boat had to be towed to safety after breaking down near Burnham.

The converted sailing vessel Dolly, which had two people on board, broke down about five miles from the entrance to the River Crouch at about 1.20pm yesterday.

Its occupants were unaware of their location, had no radio and lost mobile phone connection while speaking to the Thames Coastguard.

The Burnham RNLI Atlantic 85 Lifeboat was launched and the RAF Rescue Helicopter R125 was also diverted to help search.

The boat was found about four miles off Foulness by the helicopter and towed to Burnham by the lifeboat.

Once ashore, safety advice was given by the South Woodham Coastguard.
