Plans to develop a remote island and enhance its growing reputation for tourism have been resubmitted.

A previous application to build 19 new holiday cottages on Osea Island was withdrawn by the island’s owner, Nigel Frieda, after Maldon District Council ’s planning officers recommended it was refused, raising concerns it would be out of keeping with the area.

But the revised blueprint, which includes eight pairs of semi-detached bungalows and cottages, one detached cottage and conversion of a barn into amenities for guests including an indoor swimming pool, gym, shop and dining room, has now been submitted.

A spokesman for Osea Island Resort said: “The revised design has used old photographs, plans and references from the original 18th century Osea farm buildings to create an authentic rustic flavour in keeping with the island’s past."
