Maldon: Have your say on benefit cuts

Maldon: Have your say on benefit cuts Maldon: Have your say on benefit cuts

Maldon district residents are being asked for their views on council tax benefit cuts, which will see 4,500 households in the district affected.

Maldon District Council is encouraging residents to have their say on how future support for council tax payments will be provided to those on low incomes.

The Government will end council tax benefit on March 31 2013 as part of its Welfare Reform Act, to be replaced by a Local Council Tax Support scheme (LCTS) for working age residents.

The Government has decided that pensioners are protected from any reduction to their benefit payments – meaning no change in council tax support for around 2,300 pensioners in the Maldon District.

However, the support given to those of working age will need to reduce, to compensate for this.

Cutting the council employees pensions would be a good way to save money.
