Heybridge: Resident concerned local landmark could disappear Heybridge: Resident concerned local landmark could disappear

A concerned resident is calling for action to prevent a Heybridge landmark from disappearing.

Paul Williams, 47, of Saltcote Maltings, Heybridge, is worried about how much longer a group of beach huts on Mill beach, next to Wharf Road, will remain standing.

One of the huts has been used in the 1987 spy film Fourth Protocol, starring Pierce Brosnan and Michael Caine.

The nearby Saltcote Sailing Club was transformed into a biker cafe for the movie.

Mr Williams, an estimator for a building contractor, said: “Some of the huts look like they are about to fall down. They have fallen into complete disrepair."

We live close to these and have been attempting to purchase one for several years. The owners of those in good condition indicated that they recieve 'tens' of enquiries each year from prospective buyers. We have been trying to trace the owners of the dilapadated huts to no avail. It's a shame to see them neglected when I'm sure that there are plenty of local people who love to purchase and restore them.
