Maldon: Fraud victims to receive "gifts"
6:00pm Thursday 26th July 2012 in News
A bank has apologised after at least two Maldon customers defrauded by one of its employees were not told their money had been taken.
On July 17, Chelmsford Crown Court heard how Matthew Schofield abused his position at the Maldon branch of Santander and got away with £8,545.33 between February and April before he was caught.
Schofield, 26, of Wood Grove, Silver End, admitted five fraud charges and is due to be sentenced next month.
When approached by the Standard, two of his victims - Sheila Wade, 74, and Florence Humm, 92 - said they had not been notified by Santander.
A Santander spokesman said: “All customers have been fully reimbursed with the amounts misappropriated and we have arranged a gift to apologise.”
