Maldon: Council accused of not shopping locally

Maldon District Council has been accused of not shopping locally - by its own economic development officer.
The claim has angered Burnham Chamber of Commerce, which also believes the district council fails to promote Burnham as much as it does Maldon.
According to minutes taken at a recent Burnham Chamber of Commerce meeting, MDC officer Jenny Lewson is reported to have “advised that Maldon District Council itself does not ‘think local’ as the council purchases most items outside the district”.
When questioned by the Standard this week, she said: “MDC does not have a policy to outsource purchasing outside of the district.”
