Maldon: Residents can sponsor new Olympic Avenue
11:30am Sunday 15th July 2012 in News By Emma Robinson
MALDON’S residents and businesses are being offered the opportunity to sponsor the creation of Maldon’s Olympic Avenue.
Maldon District Council is looking for 100 individuals, families, groups or businesses to sponsor the creation of the avenue in the Longfield’s Open Space.
All sponsors will have the opportunity to have their name, or the name of a friend, family member, group or business, added to the Olympic Avenue Information Board.
Sponsors will also receive an invitation to the official opening of the avenue and unveiling of the Information Board in October.
Local school children have planted 21 trees and over ten thousand gold crocus bulbs in the Olympic Avenue.
Cllr Mrs Brenda Harker, chairman of the council’s community services committee, said: “Over the last two years Maldon District Council has hosted a number of events inspired by the London 2012 Olympics.
“Thousands of people of all ages and ability have taken part in walks, sports and arts events all over the district.
“The Olympic Avenue will be a permanent reminder of this special year”.
