The police marine unit is primed for one of the biggest operations it has been involved in.

The Essex Police marine unit, in Station Road, Burnham, is now undergoing last-minute preparations for its role during the Olympics Games.

The unit, which employs nine trained police officers, has doubled its force in preparation for the assignment.

Twenty-two specially trained police officers will be providing 24 hour cover from between July 15 and mid-September.

The force will be covering 14 miles of the Thames, between Southend on Sea and Crayford Ness.
