A widow has thanked generous funeral-goers who helped raise more than £1,000 for Little Havens Children's Hospice.

Eileen Dow, 58, of Cedar Grove, in Burnham, whose husband Dave Dow, 63, died in an industrial accident at work at Dengie Crops, Asheldham, in May, said the money raised was a fitting tribute to her family-man husband.

About 270 people packed into St Leonard’s Church, Southminster, for his funeral later that month, and following the latest donations through the funeral directors, £1,340 has now been raised.

Mrs Dow said: “We had over £340 from this cul-de-sac alone.

“I’m really pleased and I know Dave would have been too.”
