Cold Norton has received an award in this year’s Essex Village of the Year competiton in recognition of its strong community spirit.

The competition, hosted by the Rural Community Council of Essex (RCCE), saw Alresford, in Tendring District, clinch the top prize.

Nick Shuttleworth, RCCE director, said judges were impressed with Cold Norton’s residents stepping in to keep the village pub alive.

He said: “Cold Norton is one of few villages in the whole country that runs its own community pub.

“A tremendous effort by local volunteers saved The Norton public house from closure and has successfully re-established it as a key focal point of community life.”
