Maldon: Man rescued from the canal
A man was rescued from Heybridge Basin after falling in yesterday afternoon.
Paramedics were called to Lockhill, Heybridge Basin near to the Old Ship public house at 4.25pm.
An ambulance and a rapid response car attended the scene.
Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "The man who we believe to be in his 60s fell into the lock and got into difficulties.
"Luckily a member of the public jumped in and pulled him to saftey.
"I wish to pass on our sincere thanks to the mystery person who jumped in and saved the man.
"I am sure if they did not rescue the man it could have been a different story."
The man inhaled some water and was taken to Broomfield Hospital for further care.
