Tolleshunt D'Arcy: Essex Police to sell police building
Essex Police are selling a police building in Tolleshunt D’Arcy to help save £42 million a year by 2015.
Eighteen police stations and buildings, including some in Brightlingsea, Mistley and Walton, are also set to be sold.
The force closed several front counters or reduced opening hours last year in a bid to save money.
If all 18 stations are sold it would represent about 20 per cent of the force’s estate.
Chief Constable Jim Barker-McCardle said: "These decisions are driven by the commitment to provide the most efficient and professional policing operation possible for the people of Essex.
"Faced with highly challenging budget cuts, the Essex Police Authority and the force have had to make some very tough decisions. Ultimately, we do not believe that lighting, heating and maintaining a building that is under utilised is the best use of Essex taxpayers’ money.”
