Maldon: Purse dippers continue to plague town Maldon: Purse dippers continue to plague town

Prolific purse thieves are continuing to strike in Maldon.

A further three purses were stolen in the town last week, on top of two the week previously, and Insp Chris Kilgallen, of Maldon police, readily admitted the problem has become an all too familiar occurrence.

Thieves stole a 51-year-old woman’s purse containing £75 in cash, as well as cards, from a trolley in Iceland, in High Street, at about 12.30pm last Monday.

A purse containing £20 in cash, a credit card and driving licence was also stolen from the handbag of a 72-year-old woman shopping in M&Co, in High Street, at about 11.30am on Saturday.

In a slightly less premeditated incident, a 19-year-old woman’s purse was taken from outside Morrisons, in Wycke Hill, after accidentally being left resting on an ATM machine outside the store at about 9.40pm last Monday.

The purse contained £15 in cash, vouchers and store cards.
