Dengie: Bus services spared the axe
THE future of Dengie bus services has been secured, to the delight of the majority of residents.
Bus users had feared that a number of services could be scrapped in a bid to save money, but Essex County Council has now confirmed that all Dengie routes, apart from the D5 service, have been spared the axe.
A new £1.4million four-year contract, starting from August 26, will save the council £117,000 a year and see Stephensons of Essex’s D1, D2, D4 and D6 services continue virtually unchanged.
First’s 31X service between Chelmsford, Maldon, Latchingdon, Southminster and Burnham, and the Althorne shopper service, provided by Maldon Community Transport, will also continue.
The D5 service will be replaced with a new 6-day-a-week demand responsive service run by Arrow Taxis.
