Maldon: Sparks Will Fly event tomorrow

5:00pm Friday 15th June 2012

A giant will be in town this weekend as the district’s countdown to the Olympics cranks up.

Sparks Will Fly - a countywide celebration which has seen two giants travel across Essex since May - makes its way to Promenade Park on Saturday, June 16.

After a colourful procession through High Street at 1pm, giant Marina Mightier will collect the district’s message in a bottle-themed glass bead, ahead of an afternoon of entertainment and celebration.

Highlights include a performance by African drummers and dancers at 2pm and songs from the Maldon Schools Collective and Maldon Youth Orchestra at 2.15pm.

Plume Adult Music School and Maldon Big Sing will also perform, before the 4pm finale of the Festival of Morris, which starts on Hythe Quay earlier in the day.

There will also be face painting, martial arts displays, stalls and a variety of children’s activities.
