An energy company has stepped up its battle to build a new windfarm on the Burnham Marshes.

Renewable energy company RES has lodged an appeal, which has yet to be approved by the planning inspectorate, to build seven 126m tall wind turbines at Turncole Farm.

In October last year Maldon Council’s planning and licensing committee refused the application due to the visual and noise impact with the Middlewick Farm, Southminster, and the Hockley Farm, Bradwell.

Environmental issues and historical landscape which includes a number of listed buildings were also given as reasons for refusals.

RES was given six months to appeal and is waiting to hear if it has been accepted by the planning inspectorate.Project manager Jon Knight expects to hear in a few weeks whether the appeal has been approved.
