Asheldham: Runner becomes first vegan to finish gruelling desert marathon
A DENGIE runner has made history by becoming the first vegan to ever complete an epic 151 mile race across the Sahara desert.
Fiona Oakes, 42, of Tillingham Road, Asheldham, finished the eleven day Marathon des Sables, in Morocco - running more than a marathon every 24 hours.
In completing the challenge, which is widely regarded as the toughest foot race in the world, Miss Oakes, who owns and runs Tower Hill Stables, in Asheldham, also joined just a handful of women who have managed to do so.
