COUNCILLORS will run the rule over a plan to build an overrun area to help with the transportation of materials to a windfarm.

Members of Maldon District Council’s south-eastern area planning committee are to decide the application by Michael Williams to build a vehicle overrun area on the site of a field opposite Waterside Garage, in Maldon Road, Bradwell.

The area, which measures about 61m by 17m, would enable large lorries to turn so that vehicles carrying turbines could negotiate the corner.

The temporary area would be removed once the windfarm is complete.

Almost 100 letters of objection have been submitted to Maldon District Council.

Many residents are angry that a hedgerow would have to be removed to construct the overrun site.

Councillors will decide the application on Monday.

But council officers have recommended the plans be refused because it would be out of character with the area and cause “unacceptable increased risk to localised flooding from surface water run-off”.
