RAISE your glasses and toast the success of Maldon’s Blue Boar Hotel.
As excitement builds ahead of its first ever beer festival, the hotel has been awarded the accolade of Dengie Pub of the Year.
The title is decided by the Dengie branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) and it’s the first time the award has gone to the fourteenth century coaching inn at Silver Street, Maldon.
John Wilsdon, owner, said the news “came as a shock and a surprise”.
“The reason our beers are appreciated is because we have a very good brewery on site, the barrels roll across the cobbles straight to the bar and it’s very fresh,” he said.
“Our new bar manager, Kelvin Willis, assisted by Mick Alger, has made the bar a much friendlier place and that’s the other factor that’s helped us get this award, the staff are extremely courteous.”
The beer festival is a new event for the Blue Boar and will run from Thursday February 25 to Sunday February 28.
It has been organised in conjunction with its neighbouring brewer, Farmer’s Ales, and will feature beers from a number of Essex brewers.
