ROOMS at a state-of-the-art extra care home in Witham will be available to Maldon district residents after the council spent £250,000 on the project.
Six beds have been guaranteed after Maldon District Council invested the money - and councillors were so impressed with the plans they want one built in the district.
Brenda Keighley, chairman of the community services committee, said: “This is exactly the way it should be for older people.
“Maldon District Council is pleased to be involved with this new cross boundary scheme which will provide much needed housing to those who have care and support needs.
“This scheme is an excellent example of how partnership working can deliver real benefits to our residents.”
And David Williams, vice chairman of the committee, said: “We want one of these here. It is the way we feel we need to be going in Maldon.”
The 55 apartment eco-friendly development at Helen Court, Witham, will be rented to older people with extra care needs.
Braintree Council gave the land to Hanover Housing for the £6 million project and provided an extra £1 million with £2.49 million coming from the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency.
They are due to open in September and a list is being compiled of people to be considered for the homes.
No sites or finances for a similar home in the Maldon district have been earmarked yet.
