Bishop to say a prayer for Maldon jobless

A CLERGYMAN is hoping that divine intervention can ease the pain of Maldon jobseekers.

With the number of people unemployed in the district having risen by 130 per cent between December 2007 and December 2009, the acting Bishop of Chelmsford, the Right Reverend Dr Laurie Green, is offering to pray for everyone who is going through hard times on Ash Wednesday, February 17.

The latest figures from the Office of National Statistics state that 1,078 people were out of work in the district in December.

Bishop Laurie said: “People often ask me to ‘say one for them’.

“So many people have been affected by the financial crisis. I want to let them know that their local church is there to offer prayers and support.”

Prayer requests can be sent to Bishop Laurie, Say One For Me, 53 New Street, Chelmsford CM1 1AT and must be received by Tuesday February 15.

Alternatively, e-mail sayoneforme@chelmsford.anglican.org. An electronic prayer card can be sent from www.chelmsford.anglican.org/say-one-for-me
