A YOUNG singer enjoyed success at a school music competition.

Clare Thurtle, who is in year eight at St Peter’s High School in Burnham, won the overall trophy for most promising performer at the grand final of Plume School’s music competition which was held in Maldon.

The first, second and third placed winners from each category in the initial rounds of the competition were invited to perform at the final concert.

The school in Southminster Road sent 16 winners to the competition.

Claire Fennessey, spokeswoman for St Peter’s, said: “The competition for these trophies is extremely fierce as all age groups and levels of ability are up against each other - which makes it extremely difficult for the younger students who rarely win any of these trophies.

“This is an outstanding achievement considering the competition Clare was up against, the school could not be more proud.

“All 16 students represented the school so brilliantly.”
