A COUNCIL has rejected a grant application to help replace a church roof.

The community services committee for Maldon District Council refused to give £500 towards the £200,000 project to replace the roof at St Peter’s Church, Great Totham.

Members decided that the grant would make such a paltry difference to the scheme at this stage and the £500 could be better used elsewhere.

Cllr Brian Beale said: “There are other places they can get larger funding. Maybe when they are nearer to £200,000 we can look at it again.”
