A COMMUNITY hero may have helped save up to 200 lives.
Dave Spiceley is a founding member of a first responder group set up to assist the ambulance service in the area around Danbury.
Last month he made his 200th call when he helped a 58-year-old in Bicknacre who was suffering from breathing difficulties.
Dave covers three or four nights every week and has made a profound difference to the community.
Co-ordinator Gordon Wren said: “I don't think that I can put into the appropriate words my gratitude to him for the time and effort that he gives not only to our group, but to people in our communities that are in need of medical help.
“Without his dedication, our group and communities would be a poorer place.”
Dave said: “I'm glad to have the opportunity to help others and I enjoy doing it.”
First responders are crucial in the first few minutes following an emergency as they live locally and can often get to a call quicker than an ambulance to administer first aid.
