A TEENAGER has today been charged with a series of offences in connection with a road crash in Thorpe Bay in which a teenage girl was killed and several others injured.

The collision happened in Tyrone Road on Friday, March 6 when a Citroen C1 struck a large group of teenage pedestrians at 9.45pm.

The 14 casualities, including a 14-year-old girl from Maldon, were taken to Southend hospital. Eight sustained serious injuries.

The girl from Maldon was then transfered to St George’s Hospital in Tooting with serious pelvic injuires.

She, and all the others who were injured, are recovering at home except for 16-year-old Jack Horton from Southend who is an a serious but stable condition at Southend Hospital.

Eleanor McGrath died at Great Ormond Street Hospital on Tuesday, March 10.

The 14-year-old lived with her brother and parents in Bishopsteignton in Shoebury.

A 17-year-old boy from Southend was arrested at the scene and has been charged with one count of causing death by dangerous driving and eight counts of causing grievous bodily harm.

He has been released on police bail prior to an appearance at Southend Youth Court on Thursday May 21.
