ADAM Flanagan admits ‘there is a different feel around the club’ following his return to Concord Rangers.

The former Beach Boys boss was in the away dugout at the Aspect Arena for the first time on Tuesday, having managed Concord for three seasons prior to his departure at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Appointed joint-manager at Dartford, his charges were beaten 2-0 in the National League South by Sammy Moore’s talented side.

“The club have moved forward with what they are doing and so have I,” said Flanagan, who enjoyed a successful playing career at Dartford. “I had three years I enjoyed and off the back of that it’s given me the chance to manage a club I am very affectionate about.

“Sammy has recruited well and there is a different feel around the place. They have brought in a media team and other bits and pieces that weren’t available when I was here and the club is now operating like a National League South club should. They have a hard-working team and it would have been nice to come here and win but I will look to get the win next time.”

Concord finished 17th in Flanagan’s final season.

And the former boss said it was a lack of experience which cost them on the road.

“We let nine points slip after 85 minutes and if we had retained those we would have finished 12th,” he said. “There were some really good prospects in the team, I felt, but it wasn’t to be. Our home record was the second best the club had in this league, I believe, but we weren’t able to replicate that away and I put that down to the inexperience of the group. It is miles apart from the group they have now.”

In terms of Tuesday’s defeat, Flanagan said Dartford were not clinical enough.

He said: “They got off to a good start and that gave them momentum. They have been difficult to break down this season and I felt it was a game where whoever scored first would have the higher percentage chance of winning the game.

“We didn’t punish them up one end and were punished at the other end.”
