JOE Kizzi says he is playing with the mentality he is still on trial following his excellent start to the season with Billericay Town.

The 25-year-old has starred at right-back in Town’s first four matches of the season.

Having notched several assists early in the campaign, Kizzi has been a big part in Billericay’s excellent start which sees them top of the National League South after four matches.

But Kizzi says he is not getting ahead of himself.

“I am really pleased with my start and the team’s,” said the defender. “I was playing a lot of games last year, mostly on the right hand side of a three, and my role has changed a little bit now.

“I am more of an attacking right-back and I knew (manager) Harry (Wheeler) had plans to play me there and I have played there in the past. It’s good to get assists but I know it’s just four games into the season and I and we haven’t done anything yet.

“It is important not to get too high with the highs.

“But I can be replaced and so can anyone who is not performing. That has been drilled into us. Standards must be met and we all know that. I aim to play like I am on trial and I try to channel the pressure in the right way.”

Tuesday night’s 3-0 win at Welling United made it three clean sheets in four matches.

But Kizzi says he will not be looking at the league table at this early stage in the season.

“I don’t like looking at league tables at this stage,” he said. “A lot of teams will change positions so what is happening at the moment will not be a true representation.

“We are at the top at the moment but we do not expect to go unbeaten throughout the season. Last season’s success helps in terms of expectancy and the quality has grown in the squad.

“We are experienced enough not to look too far ahead.

“It has been the best pre-season and start I have been a part of and it is all well and good when you are winning but we mustn’t get too carried away.”
