BILLERICAY Town manager Harry Wheeler believes his team got what they deserved after securing a 1-0 win against Wealdstone at the AGP Arena.

A Jake Robinson goal was the difference between the two National League South teams.

The hosts had to withstand heavy spells of pressure, with Alan Julian saving a penalty with the game goalless before he went off injured.

Substitute stopper Louis Wells made a crucial late stop between the posts and Wheeler thinks the three points could be hugely significant come the end of the season.

“It is a vital three points for two reasons as it takes us up the league and we beat an opponent we believe will be right up there,” he said. “We need to beat those we assume will be around us, we took in pressure and the penalty save was a momentum swing. We changed the system and Jake does what he does and scored with one chance.

“Jules made a great penalty save and Louis came on and was excellent. It was the first time we have named a substitute goalkeeper this season and it paid off. It was a very manly performance and we got what we deserved.”

Robinson’s fifth goal of the season came 20 minutes after Joe White’s penalty was saved by Julian.

Joe Kizzi hit the bar for Town but one was enough.
