LOOKING AHEAD: Basildon United begin their season in the FA Cup, with their Isthmian North bow put on hold.

The Bees visit Stowmarket Town, of the Eastern Counties League Premier Division, in their opener.

But despite there being a division between the sides, there is no doubting the hosts’ quality.

Finishing in third position last term with 103 points, Stowmarket pose a real threat as both bid for progression to the preliminary round of the competition.

Essex Senior League pair Southend Manor and Hullbridge Sports are also in FA Cup action.

Sports - who beat Manor 2-0 on Wednesday evening - welcome Gorleston to the Ryan’s Heating Stadium, with Manor hosting league rivals FC Romania.

MANAGER’S VIEW: “It is great to get a competitive match in at last and this is a big challenge for all of us,” said Basildon manager Marc Harrison. “While I would have rather started in the league with everyone else I am looking forward to this game.

“I know Stowmarket have a good side and have added well in the summer. They finished on more than 100 points last year and were not promoted. They play between the lines and have some dangerous players.

“There may be a division between us but everybody we play against will get the utmost respect.”
