THE chief executive of Maldon District Council is set to leave after members voted to transform how the council is managed.

Fiona Marshall has been chief executive since 2010, but is leaving after a management reshuffle.

The decision was made behind closed doors at a full council meeting last month.

A council spokesman said: “At the full council meeting on June 28, members reviewed the senior management structure at Maldon District Council as part of a wider programme of transformation.

“Members have made a decision to progress with a corporate leadership team consisting of three directors rather than the chief executive post and three director posts in place currently.

“At the time of writing, a leaving date for the chief executive has not been agreed.”

Mrs Marshall has worked on many projects during her time as chief executive.

She has been spearheading meetings with the Mid Essex Clinical Commissioning Group to help progress plans for Maldon’s new health hub and handled Essex Police’s move from their Maldon station to the district council offices in 2017.

In 2016, she pushed for members to pass a motion which would allow the council to consult legal advisors to help confiscate money from rogue landlords and council tax fraudsters.

It was revealed in 2013 that her salary had topped £99,000 for the 2010/11 financial year.

In 2016, the chief executive caused controversy by ‘calling-in’ the district’s local development plan to the secretary of state.

The plan would go on to be found sound by the secretary after more public hearings were held at the start of 2017.

The council did not confirm if the existing three directors will be replaced or the date Mrs Marshall would officially leave.
