A FAMOUS music festival will be back in Maldon on Saturday.

The eleventh Maldon Festival opens on June 23 from midday and will last two weeks.

The first performance will be Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo given by schoolchildren from the area.

This half hour version of the Noah’s Ark story will be performed in St Mary’s Church in St Mary’s Lane, Maldon.

That evening, at 7.30pm extracts from Handel’s opera, Giulio Cesare with Pegasus Baroque will be sung at the same venue.

Performances during the festival will include Oompah Brass, a Bavarian style brass band who play modern pop and rock songs.

Other performers include jazz musician Jason Rebello and his trio, and Taro Takeuchi playing the peculiar harp lute.

Alongside the festival, there will also be a Maldon Art Festival running some exhibits within the two weeks.

Chloe Cheese, daughter of Essex artist Bernard Cheese, will have her artwork displayed at Hayletts Art Gallery in the high street.

The festival will end on July 7 with a performance of Menotti’s comic opera, The Old Maid and the Thief, and a one-act version of Gluck’s Orfeo.
