A FLOWER shop will be relocating from Maldon’s High Street after 38 years when its owners move onto pastures new.

The Flower Patch, one of Maldon’s longest running and well-established florists, has been run by Vivien Footner and mother Frances.

The florists has won many awards during its time in Maldon, including regional florist of the year and junior florist of the year.

The shop will be under new management from June 25, and moving premises to Wood Road in Heybridge.

Ms Footner said that her and her mother wanted to pursue new ventures after a long and successful run managing the shop.

She said: “We’ve managed this store now for the best part of 40 years and could not have asked for a better time in the town.

“We want to say a huge thank you to all of our customers and patrons who have helped and supported us over the years.

“It is something we’re really going to miss, especially all the lovely support, but we feel now is the right time to progress onto something new.”

Over the years the Flower Patch has specialised in bespoke designs for all occasions including gifts, weddings and funerals.

They imported quality cut flowers both traditional and exotic, delivering to people’s doors as well as offering their high street shop services.

They also delved into liquors with wine and champagne deliveries, along with chocolates, teddy bears and vases.

Through her time as a trader Ms Footner has voiced support for having A-boards on the high street and calling for cheaper parking charges to boost trade.

It is unknown what will become of the shop space once the store relocates under new management.

The store’s last day of business will be Saturday, June 23, before the new store in Heybridge begins operating on the Monday.

Ms Footner said: “I’m not sure what’s next, I’m taking the summer off to relax, but once that’s done we will be looking ahead to future ventures.

“But to all our customers; you have been so lovely throughout our time here and we couldn’t have done it without you.”
