RESIDENTS are encouraged to take part in a crime survey to help police and authorities tackle rural crime.

The Maldon District Community Safety Partnership (CSP) is encouraging people to take part in the National Rural Survey.

Three years ago the survey revealed the huge cost of crime to rural communities – both financial, at £800 million per year, and fear, with chronic under-reporting, anger and frustration.

The National Rural Crime Network produced a series of recommendations and Essex has been one of the few forces in the country to introduce a dedicated rural team to work with communities and tackle specific rural issues.

Last year, Essex Police, along with partners, launched the Rural Crime Strategy.

The Maldon District CSP has made ensuring the implementation and delivery of the strategy one of its 2018 priorities.

Bob Boyce, chairman of community services, said: “The Maldon District CSP is joining Roger Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, urging people to have their say and help provide an updated picture on the effect of rural crime.”

The survey is open for submissions until Sunday.
