ACROSS the district many of our everyday heroes go unsung.

This week we are lucky enough to be able to bring you two stories about community stalwarts.

Heybridge Parish Council vice chairman Ashley Jones has been recognised for helping to save the life of an off-duty police officer.

The man had suffered a heart attack and Mr Jones stepped in to administer CPR without hesitation.

His actions saved the man’s life and have ensured he is still able to serve Maldon as a policeman.

Mr Jones was rightly handed a commendation for his actions.

He has called on more people to know the basics of CPR and First Aid so they can help people in need.

Burnham couple James and Maureen Cousins have also been recognised after volunteering in the community for the past 47 years.

Maureen has helped out with Age UK Essex, Women’s Royal Voluntary Service, Meals on Wheels, and has been organiser for multiple charities for the elderly.

She also helped set up a community care group in Burnham.

Husband James is a treasurer for number of charities and organisations and manages the Poppy Appeal in Burnham.

Their dedication to organisations across the town is unwavering and should be commended.

We all need people like this trio to show the best in our community.
