ROYAL wedding fever hit across the country at the weekend as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said their vows.

While only a select few found their way on to the guest list, the day showed the community spirit across our district.

Street parties were held in Brights Path in Maldon with dozens of people turning out to celebrate the nuptials.

Elsewhere the Knightswood day care centre held its own special event, with residents joining the millions across the world who watched the wedding on TV.

North Fambridge’s Imogen Garrett was invited to Windsor for the big day.

She secured the invite after winning a Jack Petchey award.

A royalist, she made the most of the special trip, getting a snap in front of the chapel and cheering as the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex set out on their parade.

Brides and grooms also chose our district as a place to mark their weddings this weekend.

Our congratulations go to the new Mr and Mrs McGrath who held their reception in Woodham Walter after tying the knot at Ulting Church.

Events like these do not happen very often, but show the best of our towns and villages.

Long may the happy day remain in people’s memories
