A CHARITY concert will mix classic and modern when it takes to the stage in Maldon this Saturday.

The Harmony Modern Choir, based in Burnham, will be performing at the Maldon Town Hall in Market Hill, 7.30pm to 10.30pm on June 9.

The concert is in aid of the charity Home-Start.

The group will showcase its repertoire which includes songs from TV shows, pop, classical and modern pieces such as City of Stars from the Oscar winning film La La Land.

The choir has continued to support causes having recently performed at St Thomas’ Church in East End Road, Southminster.

They managed to raise more than £400 towards the church’s electrical repairs.

The choir’s fundraising total will amount to more than £3,000 since they began in 2015.

They have raised money for dementia nursing in Burnham, the annexe at Creeksea Church, cancer charity Helen Rollason, the RNLI and the Dengie Project Trust.

Musical Director Natalie Bettany said: “The concert in Bradwell was another big success for us and I am so pleased that we have been able to continue to raise money for local causes.

“Of course, this is only possible with our very enthusiastic audiences and we are all really looking forward to our next performance at the Town Hall”.

The all-female choir currently has 20 members.

Last year in April, they had their concert at the St James’ Church in Keelings Road, Southminster.

Home-Start provide help and support to families with issues such as post-natal depression, physical health problems and bereavement.

Tickets for the event are £12 and it includes a complementary glass of wine. Tickets for under-16s are £8.

The tickets are available from The Lovely Shop in Station Road, Burnham, at the Maldon District Council offices in Princes Road, Maldon or on the door at the event.
