ANGRY business owners have slammed “disrespectful” moped riders who left their bikes parked on a town war memorial.

Owners of the Cabin Dairy Café and Tea Rooms on Burnham Quay and Burnham Town Council have called out the motorists who left their vehicles on the war memorial square next to the quay.

The town council owned memorial pays homage to the people of Burnham who gave their lives fighting for their country during the First and Second World Wars.

Cabin Dairy owners Becca Tatlow and Kelvin Coles said while they try to marshal the parking of bikes in the area, some are still parking in the memorial square.

Mr Coles said: “The people who are parking on the square are not regular customers, we know that because our regular visitors know not to park on there and are very respectful.

“We seem to get a few motorbikes parking on there, and the quayside, with the majority being mopeds and scooters.

“It is completely disrespectful to the memorial, the town and its people.

“We don’t want anyone to be

parking on there, but it keeps happening.

“It’s very strange why they keep doing it, there are plenty of areas near us and the quayside for people to legally park.

“It’s like they’re going out of their way to park on the square.”

The Cabin Dairy and Burnham Town Council will be working together to help discourage people from leaving their bikes on the memorial.

In a Facebook post, Mr Coles and Ms Tatlow stated if offenders continue all bike parking could be banned near their business.

Any repeat offenders who refuse to comply or are rude to staff when asked to move will be banned from the business entirely.

Mr Coles added: “We don’t want to be ban people parking. We host many bikers regularly here who are extremely respectful.

“We just want to discourage those who are choosing to not stick to the rules.

“Please don’t spoil the area for other bikers, residents and for us.”
