THE most sought-after number plate once owned by Essex County Council could be yours...if you have £14.4 million to spare!

The ‘F1’ plate was sold to entrepreneur Afzal Kahn for £440,000 ten years ago, having been in council ownership for more than a century.

Previously, it had been used by then-chairman Gerard McEwen on a Volvo S80.

Most recently, the plate has been spotted on Bradford-based Mr Kahn’s Instagram page, adorning a blue carbon Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

Mr Kahn is the founder and chief designer of luxury vehicle company Kahn Design, which was established in 1998 to produce vehicle conversions.

His business has diversified over the years to include Project Kahn, which specialises in creating bespoke luxury Range Rovers.

While Mr Kahn reportedly rejected a £6million offer for the plate in 2013, it is now being advertised at a registration price of £12,009.995 with RegTransfers, the personalised number plate specialists.

With just over £2.4 million in VAT to be added and nominal administrative costs including a DVLA transfer fee of £80, the total asking price comes to a whopping £14,412.093.99.

Having faced calls that the council could have secured more for the plate in 2008, a spokesman previously told the Echo: “We got the best price for it at the time we sold it.”

The revenue from the sale of the plate went towards a charity which works to improve the standard of young drivers.

At the time of the F1 sale, it held the record for the most expensive UK number plate ever sold at auction.

The highest price paid to date is now £518,480 for the registration 25 0, which was bought by Ferrari dealer John Collins in 2014.

He put the plate on a Ferrari 250 SWB which used to belong to legendary musician Eric Clapton.
