LITTER pickers took part in a sweep up of rubbish from Bradwell beach on Sunday morning.

Volunteers from the "I Love Burnham" environmental group spent the cold and wet morning sweeping up the beach to collect pieces of rubbish both dumped and washed in from the sea.

The group carried out the litter pick as part of the UK environmental charity Surfers Against Sewege's nationwide event to clean up the country's beaches.

The volunteers picked up dozens of black bags filled with rubbish that was strewn across the sands, with unsual items including a tent, cupboard door, numerous buckets, oil cans, bbq grills, boxer shorts, frying pans, as well as cans, bottles and straws.

The "I Love Burnham" group has grown considerably in the past few months with regular litter picks in the town and further across the Dengie.

More beach cleans are expected to be organised within the next few months, with another set for the Bradwell beach this Sunday.
