PRIMARY school pupils ditched their uniforms for the day and came to lessons in more comfortable attire.

Willows Primary School, based in Church Road, Basildon, held a special onesie day and pupils aged four to eleven took the opportunity to dress up in their most comfortable outfits.

Some children chose to sport Marvel pyjamas while others went for a bright pink and purple dress code.

And there was grins and giggles galore as the youngsters showed off their outfits.

The youngsters were treated to this pyjama day to raise the children’s awareness of autism.

Last week was World Autism Awareness Week and schools and workplaces across the country took part and wore onesies in a bid to raise awareness of the condition.

Schools and other institutions were able to get a fundraising pack from The National Autistic Society to help raise money to help transform lives, challenge perceptions and build a society that works for autistic people.

Autism is a lifelong, developmental disability that that affects the way a person communicates and form relationships.

The Echo reported that Erin Ekins, a 26-year-old from Basildon who has autism, starred in a Channel 4 documentary ‘Are You Autistic?’ last Wednesday.
