A pub has appealed against a number of strict conditions landlords were ordered to follow.

The Warwick Arms, High Street, Maldon, was told to comply with 13 restrictions and had its premises licence suspended for 28 days after Maldon District Council’s sub-licensing committee met in December.

It followed 39 intelligence reports from police in 18 months.

The pub has appealed against the restrictions imposed on the sale of alcohol, use of the smoking area and live music restrictions and has taken the matter to court.

An initial case hearing took place at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on March 1 with the owners claiming the conditions are “disproportionate and are unnecessarily onerous”.

A trial will be held at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on July 9 to discuss the possibility of relaxing the strict conditions.

The sale of alcohol is restricted to 10am to 11.30pm with live music only on weekends, among others.
