THE outcome of Plume Academy’s recent Ofsted Inspection, that it is a “Good” school, is a significant achievement for its teachers and students.

The report in last week’s paper, “Academy given a good report”, tucked away on page nine, presented the school very positively but did not give the school the front page headline it deserved.

I say this because the significance of a school rated good by Ofsted in our town cannot be underestimated.

Not only is Plume Academy providing a quality education, it is also one of the biggest employers in Maldon District; it has more than 200 staff, and the school’s success increases business confidence and enables employers to recruit more easily.

Potential employees with children are pleased to move to the town. This creates a more prosperous community and a buoyancy in the housing market, reflected in house prices.

Your paper said of the school that it had “Pride at report card for town’s Plume Academy”, but the real news is the pride that should be felt by the whole town, reflected in its local paper, with well-deserved, front page billing.
