THIS week we bring you the news that Cabbie Day is set to return to our streets this summer.

Sadly, organisers were forced to cancel the event last year but it’s a real highlight in the Maldon calendar and has been ever since it first took place in 1952.

And that’s not just because it’s not every day that you see 75 ribbon-clad London black cabs parading along High Street.

It’s a highlight because of what it means to the children who are lucky enough to be included in the annual event.

The youngsters who will be driven from London to Maldon have learning difficulties but have every need attended to by their driver, carer and accompanying paramedics.

Entertainment, toys and goodie bags are all part of the service from the black cab drivers who give up a day of work to take the children on the outing which means so much to them and their parents and carers.

And when the children, their carers and the drivers arrive in Maldon at Plume School further activites and food awaits them.

So here’s to the drivers, the organisers and the return of a lovely event.
