Here's a round-up of recent cases heard at Chelmsford and Colchester Magistrates' Courts.

  • A man has been banned from driving for nine months and ordered to complete 120 hours of unpaid work for drink driving.

David Burt, 51, of Wordsworth Avenue, Maldon, was found to have 138 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was stopped in Milton Road, Maldon, on August 2.

The legal limit is 35.

Burt denied the offence but at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on February 8 he was found guilty.

He was banned from driving for nine months, ordered to complete 120 hours unpaid work, pay a £85 victim surcharge and £620 prosecution costs.

  • A man who was caught travelling at 109mph on the A120 has been banned from driving for 42 days.

Richard O’Rourke, 44, of Cressing Road, Braintree, admitted speeding on the A120 at Takeley on August 10.

The speed limit is 70mph.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 8 O’Rourke was banned from driving for 42 days, fined £700 and ordered to pay a £70 victim surcharge and costs of £85.

  • A man has been banned from driving for 20 months after admitting drink driving.

Colin Page, 47, of Washington Road, Maldon, was found to have 87 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was stopped in Cross Road, Maldon, on December 8.

The legal limit is 35.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 12 he was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £680 and ordered to pay a £68 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.

  • A man who flouted a red traffic light has been handed three penalty points and fined £249.

Martin Eaglesfield, 40, of Tait Mews, Maldon, was found to have travelled through the red light on the A1235, Cranes Farm Road, in Basildon, 25.3 seconds after it changed.

At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 12 he was handed three penalty points, fined £249 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £90 costs.

  • A man has been handed three penalty points and fined £220 after being caught speeding.

Jason Taylor, 54, of Maldon Road, Burnham, was caught travelling at 40mph in Summerhill in Althorne on August 5.

The speed limit is 30mph.

The case was proved at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on February 12 where Taylor was handed three penalty points, fined £220 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £90 costs.

  • A man has been banned from driving for 18 months after admitting drink driving.

Jared Payne, 24, of Sassoon Way, Maldon, was found to have 64 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was stopped on Heckford Bridge in Colchester on January 14.

The legal limit is 35.

At Colchester Magistrates’ Court on February 12 he was disqualified from driving for 18 months, fined £370 and ordered to pay a £37 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.

  • An uninsured driver who was caught doing a handbrake turn has been banned from driving for six months.

Jason Green, 20, of Montgomery Close, Colchester, was charged with driving without due care and attention on Coldnailhurst Avenue in Braintree on November 9.

Green was alleged to have sped up and performed a handbrake turn into a parking bay in a residential area.

He was also charged with driving without insurance, driving without a valid MOT and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence.

The case was proved in his absence at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on February 13.

Green was banned from driving for six months, fined £400 and ordered to pay a £66 victim surcharge and £90 costs for driving without due care and attention.

He was also fined £660 for driving without insurance.

  • A man has been banned from driving for 23 months after admitting drink driving.

Josh Booth, 27, of Glendale Road, Burnham, was found to have 91 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was stopped on the B1010 on December 17.

The legal limit is 35.

Booth was disqualified from driving for 23 months, ordered to complete 90 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay a £85 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.

  • A man has been banned from driving for 20 months after admitting drink driving.

Richard Guy, 50, of Templar Road, Braintree, had 89 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was stopped on the A120 on January 5.

The legal limit is 35.

At Colchester Magistrates’ Court on February 14 Guy was disqualified from driving for 20 months, fined £320 and ordered to pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.

  • A woman had been banned from the roads for 30 months after admitting drink driving.

Laura Matuzeviciene, 34, of Buchan Close, Braintree was found to have 138 microgrammes of alcohol in a 100 millilitres of breath when she was stopped in Notley Road, Braintree, on January 16.

At Colchester Magistrates’ Court on February 15 she was banned from driving for 30 months and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

She was also ordered to pay a £85 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs.
