SCHOOL league tables released today show that ten schools in the district are performing above the national average.

Nationally, 61 per cent of Year 6 pupils are working at the expected level for reading, writing and maths.

Cold Norton Primary School were the top performing school in the district with 91 per cent.

Headteacher, Mrs Ashworth was delighted with the results.

She said: "We are very pleased with, and so proud of, the individual achievements underlying this great set of results.  Well done to all pupils."

St Francis Primary School, in Maldon, ranked second in the district with 82 per cent of children meeting the expected level for reading, writing and maths.

Burnham Primary, Wentworth Primary, Great Totham, Latchingdon, Maylandsea, All Saints and Purliegh all also achieved higher than the national average.

At the other end of the table, Southminster Primary School was the worst performing school in the district with only 25 per cent of pupils meeting the expected levels.

St Nicholas Primary School in Tillingham and Maldon Primary School also performed well below the national average with 33 and 34 per cent respectively.

St Cedds Primary School are performing at the national average, while St Mary’s in Burnham, Tollesbury, Heybridge and Tolleshunt D’Arcy Primary are below that mark.
