THE Maldon district is getting into the Christmas spirit during the next week with a host of different festive events.

Maldon and Burnham have both already had their Christmas fayres, Father Christmas has been paying visits to different neighbourhoods in the district, but in the final days before people tuck into their turkeys the district still has plenty on offer for the family.

At The Swan in Little Totham on Friday, district based band The Kings of Wah will be performing a festive concert.

The band will kick off their wide range of songs and covers from 8pm with seasonal drinks being served at the bar.

Also on Friday in Maldon there will be a 80s themed Christmas party at the Maldon Town Football Club.

A DJ will be playing the best and cheesiest 80s songs from 7.30pm along with numerous much loved Christmas classics.

Another festive party will take place on Saturday with the After Eight Social Club holding a dance.

Taking place at the West Maldon Community Centre on Sunbury Way, there will be music from Barry Hayes along with nibbles including sausage rolls and mince pies.

There is no bar but people are invited to bring their own drinks. Club members cost £6 and non-members £8. It begins at 8pm. Call 01621 856219.

On Christmas Eve, there will be a karaoke night at The Star Inn in Steeple.

The free event will begin at the pub on The Street at 8pm on the night before Christmas and will invite all guests with limited or experienced singing to have a crack at some Christmas classics and pop hits.

Finally, on Boxing Day, there will be a Woodland Walk at the RHS Garden Hyde Hall in Rettendon.

The walk will take people around the countryside of Essex with the ideal length and terrain for families. It takes place at 11am at the hall on Creephedge Lane.
